My two-year-old daughter wakes up 20 + times a night fussing. I’ve tried everything (white noise, music, a warm bath, massaging her, even leaving a show on), and it hasn’t helped at all. This happens whether she’s in bed with her father and I or in her own bed. Our house is small, and she is waking her dad (and I) up all night! He has to work a long, hard physical labor job, and this has to stop. Anybody had a child like this? Anything helped them sleep? I wanted to let her self soothe (I was going to sit next to her, so she knew she wasn’t by herself but not pick her up) but her dad has to sleep, and he’ll feel sorry for her and pick her up if I did. HELP
Kids Melatonin gummies
My daughter was the same way we got her a weighted blanket
Melatonin…essential oils for sleep… Consulting her Pediatrician
Less naps during the day
Try a weighted blanket.
That seems pretty excessive. I’d talk to a doctor.
No naps. More physical activity closer to bed time,(down time just before bed)
No naps during the day, more fresh air activities:) et her tired lol
Melatonin. I had this same issue with my 2nd child. I just want to tell you, it’s possible she will grow out of it. He has. Mostly. LOL! Active brain.
Melatonin gave my child night terrors and they recently did a study on them and it’s not good for them
Talk with the doctor. Something doesn’t sound right at all. Could be apnea, maybe undiagnosed acid reflux, who knows. Best bet is doctor
We had the same problem with our now 3 year old. I was told to buy a weighted blanket! It has worked wonders! Get you one! Might help her!
Too young for melatonin in my opinion but if you can get the doctor to sort it out properly now, you’ll have far less problems down the road. Sounds like a serious health problem, tbh.
Pediatrician needs to be informed and can maybe offer some help . But , what worked for us with my grandson was up no later than 7am no nap after 1pm no matter what when he started to dose we took him out to play after dinner we went back outside and played hard walking , running anything that requires him to be up and moving 8-8:30 bath time then snack , storytime by then he is out like a light by 9pm ,and this was a guide from his pediatrician , for they said small kids don’t sleep well at night if there not getting any activity during the day. Good luck
This Grandma says go to the dr.
Our pediatrician recommended Melatonin. It is natural and worked like a charm.
Benedryl works and its safe.
Look on Amazon for Perfectly Safe Warmers for cribs. It is non electric…body heat activated and may help with relaxation. Also light sources in the room may cause sleep disruption…from alarm clocks and night lights… maybe get blackout blinds.
Some babies calm down with a clock they can hear ticking…
His next day off…looks like you need to ignore that cry…let her figure it out! Did it with all 3 of my kids
Oh and seriously…Stop the benadryl!!!
20 times is too much for atwo year old. You have to see a doctor. Plus introduce more physical activities during the day. like walking, swimming, running around the play ground… , Also diet. make sure she feeds well during day time…
Make sure your kiddo isn’t hungry. When trying most any of these commented remedies consult a doctor first hun. Good luck
Doctor. My son did this. Is she hitting the milestone for her speech? I say this because my son never complained of ear pain but his sleep was very restless. He kicked a lot and was just overall cranky. It turned out the pediatrician missed his fluid build up because he had shallow and narrow ear canals. So everything looked normal when they checked. Turns out he was pretty much deaf. His eardrums didnt move at all, flatline. And his pressures were so high it was maxed out. GO SEE A PEDIATRICIAN…I felt bad for not being more assertive and taking the old “boys move slower” when he wasnt talking much at his age.
Definitely talk to a doctor. My nephews did that until they were 5 and 6 years old. They were having night terrors
Both my girls started doing this at 2 we had to completely eliminate naps and with the younger she couldn’t have ANYTHING with sugar in it after 4pm
Check her naps during the day and what you feed her for dinner. What work too is tired then out 3 to 4 days in row in get her in sleeping routine.
Have you check for bugs…
They make melatonin gummies .
I don’t think a newborn wakes up that many times:face_with_raised_eyebrow: I STRONGLY advise you to see a dr. …20 times in an 8 hour sleep window means she is waking up every 20 minutes. that’s Dr status and it would be negligent for you not to take her in
Mine did that for awhile and phased out. So I don’t know what was really going on honestly other than night terrors because my daughter had them at the same age as my son. He’s now 4 She’s 11 and now yells mom in the middle of the night. Then here he comes running across the house just to tell me he’s got to pee when he was right beside the bathroom. I can’t win.
You could try melatonin
Could be reflux or apnea. Sometimes they go hand in hand. I would see her doctor. In the meantime try elevating her head and chest at night with a wedge under her mattress.
Make sure she is not having acid reflux
Sounds like a sleeping disorder. I would seek a doctors help. You can try what everyone says to do to help. But a doctor is ur best bet and see what he or she says. Good luck. Poor baby got to be so tired during the day
Could she be in pain maybe from reflux. What’s her attitude like when she wakes up
Let her cry she’ll fall back to sleep - if she isn’t hungry, isn’t sick, isn’t wet then leave her
Try a weighted blanket. Check appropriate weight of blanket for child’s weight. We use for grandson who used to do same .
Take off the sugary stuff from diet
My gson,at 6 mo. took 3 days to self soothe in a small 1 bedroom nd his momma sat right outside the door…it worked.i wz there to help here feel ok.bout it
Naomi Thompson what’s your issue with melatonin? I was told by my son’s pediatrician to use it as he has very bad sleeping issues. Safer than drugging a child with benadryl yet every parent that suggests it your giving angry faces. Do you even know what’s in this drug? Do you even know your own body makes melatonin and that sometimes this pill tops off the levels so a person can sleep… NO? Didn’t think so.
Weighted blanket and melatonin, but see a dr also to rule out any medical reasons
Bananas help kids sleep. One before bed with warm milk works a treat.
Could be 2 year old moalers coming in. My niece always wakes up at night because of the pain.
My 2 granddaughters was like that and the doctor gave her something to help her sleep they don’t take them anymore there 8 and 10 take her to the doctor and ask
Does she nap during the day? My daughter cut out naps on her children and it has helped
Do NOT give her melatonin. I had a normal healthy little girl until she was prescribed that shit. Now she has epilepsy. Melatonin actually changes your brain! Do research please before giving this.
Not that unusual for toddlers. Get some comfortable ear plugs for your husband until she finds a sleep pattern.
Please see a doctor. I have a 2 year old daughter and she sleeps minimum of 10 hours throughout the night and naps early afternoon for about 1 1/2 hour. Yes all babies/toddlers/children are different but I couldn’t let my baby fuss for that long and believe she is ok. As someone else mentioned she must be exhausted. Hope y’all can get her help soon. Blessings
Children on the autistic spectrum have sleeping problems, I know as I have 2. It’s hard work, good luck with what you decide, melatonin was my last resort and I had no regrets x
Try feeding her before bed time, then her drink… works good
When I had my middle child I son we had no idea what he was going to be born with. With that being said he woke up every 2 hours for the 1st 4 years. From the age of 5 and now he is 19 we have been on every sleeping drug to every sleep specialist hes been on every drug possible. At this point of his life they always said he gets enough sleep for him.
So is just a phase that your child is going Through. Make sure they are not napping too long in the afternoon. Stay away from caffeine.
Fuss or hysterical? Fuss just let her fuss. Dont go in and disturb her. Some children fuss as a self soother.
Take. Your. Child. To. The. Dr.
2 is the age of a common sleep regression, allegedly the worst one. Good luck.
Melatonin or benedryl to help…my pediatrician said both were safe for my kids and helped them get on a decent sleep schedule
I give my grandson a warm bath using nighttime. Wash he sleeps all nite hes 2
Have you tried keeping.her active.during.the day.cut napping.in the after.noon.maybe a morning.nap for about an hour cause u do need your break from her.if not.go to your.pediatrician good luck
Try 5mg of melatonin and go from there. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Worth a try. Coworker of mine had the same problem with her kiddo. Warm bath no nap a full tummy and maybe a melatonin.
First off? Have you taken her to see a doctor? So she can be checked? Like for colics? Is there any Medical history in the family? Then, you can look into other stuff. Talk to her doctor of whats going on and ask what’s best for her being 2…
My son would not sleep he is autistic but doctor’s said too young for sleep aide so I discovered dimeatap for allergies one night and he slept all night long I thought something was really wrong went in checked on him he was fine so maybe stomach acid reducers or allergy meds but check with a doctor for sure good luck
How much is she napping during the day?
Put a bible under the pillow it may help
Is she still taking an afternoon nap? If kids don’t get a nap they end up being overtired at night unable to reach deep sleep. My daughter took naps until age 4.
Please talk to her doctor. This is abnormal and there could be something underlying
Yeah I’d make an appointment
My 2 year old also does this and she takes naps.
Hoping you and your hubby get some rest soon!
So it sucks a ton and it took me months to finally do it. I had to put my 2 year old in her room and let her cry it out. My husband and I literally got no sleep. I’m on day 4 and she’s finally sleeping through the night. I have major anxiety so I have a video baby monitor on her. Also I did make her naps from 11:30–1ish and I put her to bed at 8.
Definitely talk to her doctor
I just went through this with my son who is around the same page. You have to just let them learn how to self soothe, even if it means letting them cry it out. It sucks to listen to them cry and may take a few days of commitment but once she figures it out you ALL will sleep so much better. Good luck!
20 plus times is severe…that’s every 15-30 mins depending on how long she is in bed for . Talk to the pediatrician…if they dont find anything they may do a sleep study
My oldest did this a lot at 2 . Idk why. It was awful. We never got sleep. Finally had to put her in her room and let her run all that energy out . Would go in there to check on her periodically. It was awful. She didn’t stop doing it till she was about 4 . She would finally go to bed around 2 am and then she would get up in the morning to go to day care and I thought maybe they where letting her sleep too much during nap time but nope. She would be wide awake at day care. I never understood it
A friend of mine was having severe sleeping issues with her daughter and they found out she was tongue tied and it was affecting her sleep. They had minor surgery on it and she’s been sleeping soundly ever since. It could be something that you’d never think would affect sleep! Definitely contact your doctor and see if they can assist.
My kids sleep with music on a night light and a fan if we forget the fan they are up alot my kids don’t nap and my daughter which was and still is the worst about sleeping got diagnosed with adhd also try the night time gripe water that helped some
Best advice I can give is to request a sleep study. It could be nothing, but it could be answered prayers. At 3 years old my son had bit slept through the night. He was miserable and so I was I.
After his sleep study we found out that he had obstructive sleep apnea. He was getting ZERO minutes of REM sleep, and stop breathing 9 times an hour. Hot hus tonsils and adenoids out and he’s slept through the night every night since.
Good luck Momma
Is she getting enough exercise?
Went through this with my daughter now 7 and still wakes up stopped naps at 18months but didn’t help, saw my doc and nothing wrong with her just a child that does not need a lot of sleep but should still see your own doc may not be the case with your child
My son was like this since he was a baby he got evaluated and therapies helped me out on understanding why he is so active at night and has a difficult time falling asleep. A weighted blanket helped him as he needed the pressure to help him stay asleep. Doctors also put him on melatonin for 6 months because he doesnt produce natural melatonin. Definitely talk to your doctor. Hes now 5 yrs old and it has gotten much easier now. Hang in there momma!
I would ask your doc about it. May be something minor but I would ask if it’s possible to do a sleep study. They can detect a lot of issues if any that way.
You could get Melatonin gummies and give her one or two about an hour before you wanna lay her down. It’s what our body produce naturally to sleep, some peoples bodies just dont produce enough and have a hard time sleeping. And giving her this before bed will help and add to her body production of it already and it might help her sleep better. My nephew eats two of the gummies every night cuz he has the same problem and it really helps him. Giving the Melatonin combined with making her self soothe is an idea.
All my kids did this and I honestly by that age made them cry. You need it for your sanity. It’s not cruel because really worse things will happen in her life than that. Be strong!!
Put the sound machine in your room
Take her to the doctor, my ENT helped me with my 2 year old. That was when I realised she had some breathing problem when she sleep.
He’s gonna have to suck it up and let her self soothe otherwise she’ll never learn and you guys really will never get sleep
No naps during the day. Get her up early. Play with her alot during the day. She will sleep. My son was like that, hes 42 now, hes a night person and doesn’t sleep alot anyway.
Does she have access to a television, tablet or other screen device? If so, check out blue light and the affect on sleep, specifically a child. If she’s going to bed while watching a screen or shortly after, that may be part of the issue. Leaving it on in her room may also cause her to wake frequently. Many people are unaware of the effects blue light has on sleep, including adults. It’s amplified in children. A visit to the doctor would also be a good idea. Good luck mama!
At that age, waking up that much isn’t normal. Speak to your doctor.
MY Joy is back to me after a very long time which i and my ex separated since i was alone my life change, every thing about me change a friend of mine gave me an email address and told me that this was the email address she contacted when she was in the same problem so i contacted the email i got a reply he ask me to send him my number so i did he was a man call Dr goko he is a spell caster he casted a spell for me and told me that within two day that my ex we be back for good within that two days my ex was back, i and my ex just got married. few week back email (Dr.gokospellhome12@gmail. com or on WhatsApp +2349064938931,
if this just started recently there could be a psychological reason
either way get her into her doctor asap to figure out what’s going on
Put her in bed with may a blanket or shirt that smells like u
My 8 year old did this when she was younger. I brought it up to her doctor multiple times, and was always told it was normal I started buying melatonin gummies or chewables and it helped a lot.
My son was an aweful sleeper it wasn’t until I noticed he on breathed through his mouth and tried out going to an ent. Adnoids out and tubes in his ears later the boy is a completely different animal. Sleeps better less sick and overall more energy!!! Wish I did it sooner
Are you changing her diaper every time she wakes up or throughout the night at all? I would stop, if you are. Change her diaper right before bed and that’s it until morning unless it’s seeping. Create a schedule so you wake up at 6am or 7am everyday and wake the baby of course. Mine wakes up at 530am Keep her up until 1 or 2, or whatever time you want naptime. Let her sleep 1.5-2hours and keep her up until whatever time you want her to go to bed at night. Keep her busy during the day. I found that having white noise for bedtime and naptime works awesome for us. My daughter is a year and a half and is now only using white noise at bedtime. Along with melatonin if absolutely needed. We also do lavender essential oils at night. Just dab a little in her crib where her head is. Works wonders! Making sure her belly is nice and full right before bed will make her sleepy also. My daughter has a hard time staying asleep so I found that all of that helps a lot along with dance parties/exercise and then down time before bed:blush:! Mine goes to bed at 730. Gradually extend the time with crying it out. You can try patting her bum or gently rubbing her back and “shhh” her back to sleep. Best of luck mama
Maybe too much sleep during the day? If my daughter has a nap longer than an hour she’s up all night… I have cut naps out too some days and it seems to help… she goes to bed around 8-9 and then wakes up around 6-7. If it’s still bad maybe you should consult her doctor and they can check her breathing and stuff too.
If she’s really waking up that much and fussing, I would take her to the doctor. Could be nothing, but better safe than sorry!
Cut out any naps in the day if they have any and it could be separation anxiety or it could be something waking her up does she have silent reflux? Does she have an allergy? Xx
My daughter is 16 months and was waking up 6 plus times a night. I tried literally EVERYTHING. Finally just one night I let her “cry it out”. I never wanted to do that but it was the only option left. And miraculously it was the ONLY thing that worked. She cried for about an hour, I kept an eye on her on the video monitor and went in and layed her down when she would stand up. And finally she layed down and fell asleep. The next night she cried about 20 minutes and then the next night not at all. and now she sleeps through the night. Not sure how this works for toddlers over 2 but it worked for us!
My 16mo has been waking a couple times a night for the last month, we put her back into our room and it’s still happening. I get up at 415am for work(she goes to work with me) so I’m frustrated, teething has been part of it but even with Tylenol it’s happening. She’s never been sick, just thinks she needs to wake up constantly
If your willing you could try melatonin, it’s completely natural, they have gummies and drops, if your not sure you can talk to the Dr but I can definitely guarantee it works I know multiple people that use it for their children including myself😊
